Well, since the dawn of its inception, words, have always been able to convey message but seldom conveyed an emotion. From the subtle emotions of like and dislike to the robust outbreak of anger or laughter, we are constantly consumed by emotions, unable to be weaved into words. The tone and the voice of a sentence cannot be purely communicated with periods and quotes. A single sentence can either be jocular or ironical or serious. For e.g

Hence now, when even words flunk to convey exact feelings you have Emoticons : )

Emoticons is NOT a 21st century invention

Chronicles has it that a transcript from an Abraham Lincoln speech written in 1862 contains – “(applause and laughter ; )”.

Scott Fahlman was the first documented person to use the emoticons :- ) and :- (, with a specific suggestion that they be used to express emotion. The text of his original proposal, posted to the Carnegie Mellon University computer science general board on 19 September 1982 (11:44), was thought to have been lost, but was recovered 20 years later by Jeff Baird from old backup tapes.

The Evolution Of Emoticons

The emoticons have evolved over a century from being reserved and reticent to chirpy little animations, portraying every nuance of an emotion. It has certainly changed the way the messages are perceived, inculcating a sense of brevity, fun and frolic. Lets see how the evolution took place

What exactly is Google Glass? 

To put it succinctly -  “It’s a wearable computing device in disguise of specs which would run on a chargeable battery lasting 24 hours.”

And what does it do?

Well, for a start, you can take pictures, make videos, get directions and interact through voice actions until, time revolutionizes it into another play store with a multitude of applications for almost every purpose.

How?

If you are scratching your head thinking how would you be able to concentrate both on the road and the directions. Well, allow me to throw some light. The Screen would not be in that close proximity as you are imagining. For a comfortable and convenient computing the screen would make a 25 inch HD mirage at a distance of eight feet.

Apps on Google Glass?

Well, Yes! Google has given developers a green light for developing apps on its latest prodigy – Google Glass but, with strict norms and conditions. Some of those are:

No Advertisement – Google as yet, don’t want to vex the users of its most sophisticated technology with unbidden advertisement and pop ups.

Free of cost – Every application would be available free of cost. Google want its users to perceive its scope in all limits and not be restricted to just free applications.

How can I buy it?

The Google Glass website shows that – “The application for registration has closed”. That means the persons (mostly developers) who had earlier applied for this would get to try their hands on first.

It is priced at US $1500

So are you ready?

Easy?

Do you already use firefox? Great! You need not to install any additional plugin or add-on. If you have a pretty recent version of the Firefox ( i.e Firefox 15 or above) , you are good to test your Responsive Website.

How exactly then ?

After opening your browser you will see an orange Firefox tab in the top left corner, click it. Scroll down and click Web Developer which would take you to a host of options. The second after second break would be Responsive Design View.

After clicking the ‘Responsive Design View’ the browser will toggle its screen for a responsive preview of the site already loaded in the browser. You have the options to see it in any custom screen resolutions either by stretching from the bottom right corner of the preview or by selecting any predefined custom resolutions.

Google has been able to amass a 15 million scentibytes database of smells from all around the world. You want to know the smell of Jasmine – Google Nose (knows), smell a New Book – Google Nose, smell a Swiss Chocolate – Google Nose, Smell the damp sand at Miami, well, Google Nose.

Very often do we see the Sci-Fi flicks prophesying that our end is near. Well, ours doesn’t seem to be in a hurry but the internet just evaded its sad demise.

When at my office it took me 20 minutes to send a 20kb file to one of our client, I realized something is just not right. The internet which generally ran like bolt suddenly tried to emulate a turtle’s tread. Even one of our own websites denied to respond. Tired of waiting the sites load on the browser I went home, but just to find that the problem wasn’t just local … it had gone global.

What really happened?

It was a DDoS Attack, and one of the biggest the world has ever witnessed. DDoS i.e. Denial-of-service attack is an attack to render a network or a resource useless to its intended users.

When, Spamhaus, a Geneva based non-profit organization, fighting email spam and similar computer crimes, included Cyberbunker , a hosting service provider, in its list of spam-hosting services, Cyber bunker  grew restless of revenge and the rest is now history.

The world witnessed the most fiercely fought cyber attacks making the people and the system paralyzed.

World without Internet?

Today where internet has gone past the boundaries of desktops and laptops to be your sidekick everywhere you go, world without internet is just not a pleasing scenario to envisage. Hope the IEEE can create the next level of internet where DDoS attacks won’t matter anymore.
